Chalk this car up to one of the many reasons why Transformers 3 can?t come soon enough. Already fielding an impressive line-up of intergalactic robots that turn into cars of varying shapes and sizes, the growing robotic cast of Transformers 3 is going to have a new addition to the line-up: an ’Autobot? Mercedes E550.
Not a lot of people know this, but Transformers director, Michael Bay, also happens to be a car enthusiast. So when picking a car to play the role of a still-to-be-named Autobot, Bay enlisted the help of Claus Ettensberger and his merry band of tuners at CEC to work on a base Mercedes E550 and give it a nice modification set-up.
Building on two identical models of the car, CEC gave the E550s a custom blue paint job that was specifically chosen by Bay himself. On top of that, the two cars also get a number of CEC enhancements, including a custom aerodynamic kit, a new front spoiler, side skirts, a rear skirt, decklid spoilers, new fenders, and a suspension and exhaust system. Rounding out the modifications are a set of 20? CEC C725 forged wheels with matching Michelin PS2 tires.
Unfortunately, these two cars won?t be going on sale. Instead, they?re going to be thrust into action to defend the planet from the devious and war-mongering Decepticons. Nonetheless, the overall package CEC did on the Mercedes E550 looks very impressive.
Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon drops in theaters on July 1st, 2011, and as fans of what CEC did, here?s to hoping that Michael Bay didn?t ask to build these two cars only to blow them up in the movie. Just sayin?.
